Opinion of the Day:
After a couple games in a new jersey, we are starting to get a sense of what Andrew Wiggins will be like as a Warrior. So far, he has performed at a high level, arguably surpassing expectations given to him during his disappointing time at Minnesota. However, the question still remains: how will Wiggins fit in when Curry and Thompson return from injury? In my opinion, he will work perfectly with the Warriors.
Throughout his time at Minnesota, pressure to succeed clearly impacted Wiggins’ confidence. Due to the fact that he was taken with the number one pick, Timberwolves fans had high expectations for Wiggins’ career. But after a promising third year in the league, in which he averaged over 23 points per game, Wiggins seemed to only be getting worse. Whether it was due to the pressure, or a lack of drive to succeed, something was off. However, in his new situation with the Warriors, I believe that these previous issues are now a non-factor. He no longer has earth-shattering expectations on him, and can play without constant media attention.
Another thing which I believe will help Andrew Wiggins is that he will be the third option for the Warriors. Instead of the Timberwolves, where Wiggins was supposed to be the main scoring option, or at absolute worst, a sidekick to Karl Anthony-Towns, on the Warriors, Wiggins’ role will be much smaller. As the third option, Wiggins will be able to find more open shots, because the defense will be so focused on stopping Curry and Thompson. Therefore allowing Wiggins to improve his shooting percentages and boost his confidence when it comes to shooting.
Lastly, I believe that Andrew Wiggins will be a good fit for the Warriors, because his style of play matches well with the Splash-Bros. While he will never be a replacement for Kevin Durant, Andrew Wiggins does not need to have that large of an impact for the Warriors to succeed. Because of this, Wiggins current skill-set: an athletic, solid shooting forward, will match well with both Curry and Klay.
With all of these things being said, I believe that Wiggins is a very solid fit on the Warriors, and this relationship will help both parties: Wiggins and the Warriors. I am excited to see what next season brings for the Golden State Warriors, and if they are able to figure out this combination of talent.
