There’s A Friendly NFL Rivalry In Kate Mara’s Family

Actress Kate Mara‘s family has ownership ties in the NFL. But, it’s not just to one team. It’s two teams.

According to People, “Mara’s father’s side co-owns the New York Giants while her mother’s side co-owns the Pittsburgh Steelers”.

The Giants and the Steelers. Which one to root for, which to support. That is the question.

Mara was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and talked to her about the family dynamics on “game days”.

“It’s complicated,” Mara said to Ellen per People. “If everyone’s winning then it’s really happy…It’s a stressful situation, constantly. But, it’s also really amazing because someone’s most likely going to win, right? One of the teams is gonna win.”

The Steelers, at least, have been doing exactly that. They literally weren’t losing up until recently. The team was 11-0 then lost two straight but still sit atop the AFC North.

On the other hand, the Giants have had a little bit of a different start. They started out the season losing five straight but turned things around and now sit at 5-8 and have a chance to make the playoffs, sitting at second in the NFC East.

“At the beginning of the season, it was pretty dark for the Giants,” Mara said to DeGeneres per People. “And now, all of a sudden, we’re in first place … which is completely mind-blowing.”

And guess who the Giants played to start out the season. Yup, the Steelers. Pittsburgh got that win 26-16. So, it looks like in the Mara household, the mother’s side holds bragging rights. At least for now.

So, Giants or Steelers. That’s the question in this family. It seems like Mara leans more towards the Giants as she apparently helped her husband, Jamie Bell, become a Giants fan according to The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.

Mara also has a pinned tweet where she tagged both the NFL and the Giants. The actress retweeted NFL receiver Michael Thomas‘ post as Mara said: “(It’s) time to listen to your players. It’s time to make up for failing to support the people who have helped make your league what it is. It’s time to step up. Condemn racism and the systematic oppression of Black people. Be leaders for equality.”
