An Extensive Look Into the Complicated 1.5 Year Engagement of Aaron Rodgers and Shailene Woodley

In February of 2021, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers announced his engagement to notable actress Shailene Woodley. However, throughout the span of their engagement, there have been multiple ups and downs that have led to their second – and likely final breakup. 

In February of last year, Rodgers dropped the engagement bombshell on fans during his NFL MVP acceptance speech when he referred to the Divergent actress as his fiancee.

In addition, Woodley confirmed during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she was in fact engaged to the football star. Affirming their union, she explained that she never thought she would be marrying a man who “throws balls for a living.” 

Their association came only a year after the two of them both ended long-term relationships. Although Rodgers shared that initially, the couple started in a casual arrangement, however, their romance quickly deepened. Only confirming their dating status on February 3rd, their engagement was announced three days later. 

“I’ve made decisions and changes and habits that put me in a lot better headspace and there’s just a lot of things that have come together in my life over the last few months that have really been enjoyable … That’s why I’m having so much fun and it starts with love. And then surrounding yourself with people that you really enjoy,” Rodgers said of Woodley during the Pat McAfee Show.

Although insiders were vocal about the fact that the two their relationship came as a shock, the two seemed happy for roughly a year. Yet, in the midst of the quarterback’s COVID-19 scandal, their differing politics came into the discussion of their relationship. An insider shared that the two “agree to disagree” on politics in January, but it was announced the following month that they split up. 

Despite an insider claiming, “They’re very different people with busy careers and there were obstacles that they couldn’t surmount,” in an interview with PEOPLE, Rodgers went on to call Woodley his “Partner” in an Instagram post that celebrated his past season with the Green Bay Packers. 

With rumors floating around and the couple being spotted together at a winery over the past month, insiders still insisted that the two were not together. 

“Shailene felt everything was on Aaron’s terms and it wasn’t making her happy,” the insider reported to PEOPLE.
