NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace was pleased to announce he and his now-wife Amanda Carter kicked off the new year right by getting married in front of 250 guests at the JW Marriott in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Dec. 31.
“Getting married, and starting a new life together, I’m just so excited to have a good one in my corner,” the 29-year-old professional driver told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. “We have so much fun together.”
The couple initially began dating five years ago and were engaged by July 2021. After popping the big question, Wallace and Carter began planning their wedding with the catering company, Fabulously Created Events. The two ultimately settled on an exclusive guest list at the North Carolina hotel, alongside all-white flowers with greenery accents and candles to decorate the atmosphere.

“We wanted the ceremony, (which was held on the hotel’s 4th floor) to be formal, and then as soon as you walk down the staircase to the reception, we wanted the whole mood to flip,” Carter said, describing the lovely ceremony. “The flowers are changing from white to vibrant with pinks, purples, reds, with a lot of sparkle and shine in the room. We wanted the reception to feel like a New Year’s Eve party.”

As Carter continued, she noted that she and Wallace opted to not have a seated dinner, as to make sure they could talk to every one of their guests. “We’re not doing a seated dinner with over 200 people,” she relayed. “We wanted to make sure that we have time to see everybody. And a seated dinner really can take away from being able to talk to everybody.”
Carter also discussed the catering during the reception. Apparently, the newlyweds decided to have a non-traditional selection. While they offered their favorite foods such as tacos and stir fry, they also had Mcdonald’s.
“We just really wanted it to be a fun atmosphere, not stuffy, even though everyone’s going to be dressed up,” Wallace’s wife explained. “We wanted a more casual food setting since it’s late in the evening. And then at 1 a.m. when the party’s over, we have a McDonald’s food truck coming to serve chicken nuggets and french fries.”
Surely, this event was memorable for everyone involved. In addition to all the excitement at the ceremony, Carter just seemed happy to be marrying the love of her life.
“We just have such a good bond. I love the time we spend together. We could sit around together all day every day and we don’t get tired of one another,” Carter said, speaking of her and Wallace’s bond.
