On Tuesday, March 8th, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media announced to the world that the 38-year-old star athlete signed a four-year contract that included a shocking updated salary. “The #Packers and MVP QB Aaron Rodgers have agreed to terms on a 4-year, $200M deal that makes him the highest paid player in NFL history, sources say,” the NFL analyst shared on social media

Rapoport included, “He gets a whopping $153M guaranteed and his cap number goes down. A monstrous commitment by GB for years to come.”

However, speculation began circulating nearly instantly after this announcement. Does this really mean a four-year commitment for the quarterback? Will his salary really reach $200M? Rodgers took to Twitter to clear up any rumors that were circulating around.

“Hey everyone, just wanted to clear some things up; YES I will be playing with the @packers next year, however, reports about me signing a contract are inaccurate, as are the supposed terms of the contract I ‘signed’,” he began. The MVP quarterback went on to add that he is “very excited to be back” alongside a “#year18” acknowledgment.

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur discusses tactics for keeping Aaron Rodgers in their roster

Despite the rookie quarterback 2020 NFL draftee Jordan Love standing by, the Green Bay coaches were still desperate to keep their veteran in the lineup. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur discussed the matter and relayed that it was difficult to not try and weigh in on Rodgers’ decision making.

“I told him, I don’t wanna be overbearing and tell him every day how much we love him and how much we want him back,” LaFleur said, according to the Bleacher Report. “So you just wanna be respectful of his space and allow him to think through everything clearly without being annoying, I guess.”

However, in order to keep the athlete in the lineup, it undoubtedly raises some questions about what and who the team will cut to meet their budget.

Although there are still many questions looming, the Cheeseheads can rest assured that they have a clearer look into Rodgers’ future with the Green Bay Packers.
