Retired Yankee Alex Rodriguez Takes More Steps Toward Buying the Mets
Despite playing the last 12 seasons of his illustrious baseball career with the New York Yankees, retired shortstop Alex Rodriguez is taking steps to become the next owner of the New York Mets.
According to a source, both Rodriguez and his future wife, Jennifer Lopez, have recently taken a necessary step by retaining JPMorgan Chase to raise capital. Rumors first began swirling about Rodriguez and Lopez becoming the next owners of the Mets when The New York Post reported it in February.

As The Post reported two months ago, “baseball and Wall Street insiders told the magazine that the controversial former Yankees superstar is ‘kicking the tires’ on the idea of getting into an upcoming auction for the team.”
“He’s a businessman and a baseball man based in New York,” a source told The Post at the time. “Why wouldn’t he be looking at this?”
And while neither Rodriguez or Lopez have openly talked about their decision to bid on the ownership of the Mets, A-Rod did mention to Jimmy Fallon while a guest on the Tonight Show that if the opportunity arose to buy the Mets, he would take it.
After Fallon asked A-Rod if the rumors were true, he responded saying, “Here’s what it is, I love New York City, number one. A lot of people don’t know this, but growing up, I was a big Mets fan. And with the exception of my daughters’ birth, both of them, the best years of my life were 1986 and 2009 when we won. So I would say this, if the opportunity came up, I would certainly look at it.”
A-Rod then asked Fallon if he would buy the Mets with him, adding that he needed a partner. To which Fallon enthusiastically said, “Of course!”
