News broke this week that Bündchen, who shares two children with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, was looking into hiring a divorce attorney. Recently, a source close to the couple reported to the media outlet PEOPLE that Brady is actively “trying to figure out what to do.”

The couple has reportedly been dealing with a lot of tension over the last few months, many attributing it to the quarterback’s decision to continue playing football. During an interview this summer with Elle, Bündchen opened up about her honest thoughts on her husband’s unretirement.

“Obviously, I have my concerns — this is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present,” she explained. “I have definitely had those conversations with him over and over again. But ultimately, I feel that everybody has to make a decision that works for [them]. He needs to follow his joy, too.”

If Brady and Bündchen decide to move forward with a divorce, the family will have to divide their multimillion-dollar assets and devise a custody plan for their children. Jacqueline Newman of Berkman Bottger Newman & Schein LLP, a divorce attorney not involved in the case, believes it will be a quick split.

“People of this magnitude of wealth don’t generally get married without a document that’s going to dictate what’s going to happen if it doesn’t run its course,” Newman explained. “here probably were assets that were acquired during the marriage, so there may be squabbles about that to say the least. That said, I think they are going to settle this, assuming they go forward with it — outside of the press.”

Despite Brady’s dedication to the game, sources say that he is completely dedicated to his family in the off-season. “No other husband gets six months off a year to be totally devoted to just their family,” one insider shared. “And during the season, yes he travels for games and trains, but he’s with his family a lot too.”

However, the quarterback himself knows that playing professional football comes with a set of personal challenges. On a recent podcast episode, Brady admitted, “I haven’t had a Christmas in 23 years and I haven’t had a Thanksgiving in 23 years, I haven’t celebrated birthdays with people that I care about that are born from August to late January. And I’m not able to be at funerals and I’m not able to be at weddings.”

Yet, this still doesn’t seem to be enough for the 45-year-old to step away from the game.
