Steph and Ayesha Curry Talk About Homeschooling Her 8-Year-Old and 5-Year-Old Daughters at the Same Time

Ayesha Curry is a busy woman. Not just because she’s a cookbook author and television host, but she’s also a wife and a mother of three. And now she can add “teacher” to the list.

Ayesha and her husband, Golden State Warrior point guard, Stephen Curry, are parents to 8-year-old Riley, 5-year-old Ryan, and 2-year-old Canon Curry. And as Ayesha revealed in an interview with People, homeschooling three kids at once is not for the weak.

“The kids are small with a ton of energy, so whenever possible, we’ve been trying to get them outdoors. We’ve been doing family hikes and when the weather’s hot, [we] hang out together by the pool,” the mom said of how they have passed the time while secluded from the rest of the world due to COVID-19. Now think about that level of energy while trying to homeschool two girls in two different grades.

As Ayesha Curry explained both Riley and Ryan have started classes and “we’re in the thick of it” the 2-time cookbook author admitted. Right now, she’s just trying to get her footing and figure out how she can be the most effective teacher.

“My oldest is pretty disciplined so that’s been easy, but our 5-year-old has a little trouble staying engaged for an extended period of time.”

One of the things they found that works for Ryan to help keep her focus is physical activity. Right before class starts, Ayesha will have her 5-year-old do some type of movement to help “focus the mind and get some of the wiggles out, and periodic ‘dance breaks’ between lessons.”

“We also added resistance workout bands to the legs of her chair, which give her something to do if she gets antsy during a long Zoom session,” she shared with People.

Ayesha said the recipes she’s included in her most recent cookbook, The Full Plate, are perfect for the extremely busy parent who doesn’t have much time anymore to get a meal on the table for their family.

“I’m a working mom with three small kids now, so I have less time to devote to cooking and meal prep than I did [before]. But because I refuse to sacrifice on the quality of the meal, I’ve spent the last few years figuring out ways to develop great flavor in as little time and with as little effort as possible.”

And while the pandemic has brought many hardships to people around the world, Ayesha Curry said she and Steph are focusing on the silverling of it all and focusing on this “time together with the kids,” time they wouldn’t have otherwise.
