He expressed that coming out initially wasn’t a decision he wanted to make, but he felt like he should for “all the young kids out there that are struggling with their sexuality.”

“If I could just help a few of them out, then I could sleep better at night,” Nassib shared.

However, he did include the fact that he wanted to come out to his team as soon as possible, but he wasn’t able to in 2020 because of COVID-19 procedures. Having not met his teammates or established himself in the league, Nassib wasn’t sure if coming out last year was the best decision.

So, he waited until 2021. He explained, “I wanted to make sure the guys that I went to work with every single day were good dudes, were accepting dudes… Everyone responded so well, and I was like, ‘Damn, these are good dudes!'”

The football player included the fact that upon coming out, he felt very prone to anxiety as if everyone was watching him. Yet, as he settled into his team, the weight on his shoulders began dissolving and he felt comfortable interacting with colleagues in the NFL. To him, coming out was necessary to be his most authentic self.

He expressed that a difficult part of being gay was achieving being “someone’s number one priority”, which typically comes easier for those who are straight. Nassib described growing up and watch his friends get married and have kids, while he was never sure if he could achieve that. Thankfully, he commented that he has it now. When asked how achieved this, he instantly responded, “I met an awesome guy. He’s the best.”
