In early April, the Chicago Bulls cheerleading squad orchestrated a spectacular proposal between head cheerleader Julia Pontarelli and her boyfriend Ransom Hatch.
It is no secret that everyone loves a good proposal story. They appeal to the romantics and are typically a wholesome demonstration of love.
Whether it is extravagant or a more reserved event, popping the big question is nerve wracking for anyone who has the guts to ask. For Hatch, long-term partner to Chicago Bulls cheerleader Pontarelli, he made sure to bring his A-game.
Last month, the Chicago Bulls had an incredibly memorable sequence of plays. However, what is perhaps most eye opening, was the incredible demonstration of romance in the midst of one of the halftime shows. While the cheerleader squad is used to putting on a show-stopping performance during halftime, Julia Pontarelli was shocked when there was a sudden change in performance.
Her fellow teammates and Benny the Bull (an iconic figure in Chicago sports history) ushered her to the center of the court. Waiting for her was a spacious yellow mystery box that couldn’t have confused the cheerleader more.
It wasn’t long before Benny gave her the nod of approval to open the box…except there was one twist: there was a man in the box. Who? Pontarelli’s boyfriend, Ransom.
After removing himself from the box, he took the classic route and dropped to one knee. Then, he asked the question that will forever change Pontarelli’s life. “Will you marry me?” he questioned.
Speechless and emotional, the proposal was instantly accepted and the two embraced. With a crowd of supportive fans cheering the newly engaged couple on, they happily walked off the court and the Bulls continued their epic game.
How the Chicago Bulls brought two lovers together
The Chicago Bulls have been a significant aspect of their relationship since the beginning and the professional cheerleader even cited the team as the number one reason for finding her fiancee. Taking to Instagram, she explained that Ransom worked as an assistant to Benny the Bull and he orchestrated a meetup between the mascot and Pontarelli in order to get her number. The rest is history.
“I love [Ransom] with all my heart and feel so lucky to have met such a kind & wonderful soul. I am thrilled to be spending the rest of my life with my soulmate and BFF,” the cheerleader wrote in the caption of an Instagram post that celebrated her engagement. She added the sentiments, “When you know you know – and I knew before our first date.”
