Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin released a public speaking video for the first time since he went into cardiac arrest and collapsed on the field.
On January 2nd, during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the 24-year-old safety player suddenly collapsed on the field and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment for cardiac arrest.
After weeks of recovery, he is happily integrating back into society, which includes lending support to his teammates from the comfort of the stands. Most recently, the athlete took to Instagram to share his gratitude for all the people who helped to save his life during the life-changing incident.
“As I continue to make so much progress recovering, I think it’s finally a good time to share a few things,” Hamlin began, addressing his audience via video. “I think it was important for me to wait and speak publicly at the right time, as it was just a lot to process within my own self. Mentally, physically, even spiritually.”
“I can’t tell you how appreciative I am of all the love, all the support, and everything that’s just been coming in my way,” the NFL player continued. “What happened to me on Monday Night Football, I feel is a direct example of God using me as a vessel to share my passion and my love directly.”
Hamlin proceeded to thank the team of medical professionals who assisted him in his journey to recovery, naming the doctors by name in both Cincinnati and Buffalo hospitals that helped save his life. Additionally, he relayed that his parents created the most beneficial support system and built up his spirits enough to result in a positive recovery.

“[They are] literally my anchors and my everything, who never left my side the entire time,” he explained. Hamlin went on to thank his brothers, who were also at his side throughout his entire time in the hospital.

In addition to his family, the entire Buffalo Bills franchise was a large supporter of Hamlin and never stopped showing their advocacy for his health to return. “Ever since I became a Buffalo Bill, it’s been nothing but genuine love and support,” he relayed. ‘It really encouraged me and helped me to get through the toughest moments.”
“Just to put team allegiance aside, to root for one kid’s life and just the humanity of a player that’s wearing Buffalo blue, to put humanity above team loyalty, you showed the world unity over division,” Hamlin added, expressing his gratitude for his team.
