Let’s Talk About the XFL’s Newest Stakeholder and The Rock’s Business Partner Dany Garcia and the Historic Purchase They Just Made

Yesterday, it was reported that actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, his business partner Dany Garcia, and RedBird Capital purchased the XFL. On August 3, Johnson took to Twitter to share the big news, writing, “With my trailblazing partner Dany Garcia and RedBird Capital, we have acquired the XFL. With gratitude and passion, I’ve built a career with my own two hands and will apply these callouses to our @xfl2020 brand. Excited to create something special for the fans!”

But now let’s talk about the historic significants behind Garcia also being a majority owner of the XFL. With this latest purchase, as ESPNW reports, Garcia has become the first woman to ever own an entire sports league.

In fact, Johnson revealed that it was his partner who put the idea out there that they should buy the XFL. After it was revealed that they decided to purchase the league for $15 million, Garcia took to Instagram to share a photo of her and a football that read XFL on it.

She captioned the photo, “For The Love of Football. For The Love of The Athletes. For The Love of The Fans.” Under that post, in the comments section, Johnson wrote, “And this all started with you saying, “Let’s buy the XFL.”
Here we go. #fortheloveoffootball.”

Johnson then continued to praise Garcia on Twitter. “Taking a moment to illuminate this very cool and huge milestone,” the actor and dad of three wrote. “My XFL partner, Dany Garcia becomes the first woman to OWN an entire sports league independent from a team. She was the architect in this acquisition and now we go to work – for the love of football.”

And Garcia has since spoken on making history via her Instagram stories. “I believe I just made history by following my dreams,” the entrepreneur and mom of one wrote. Adding that, “Milestones are met with the support of those you surround yourself with.”

As many know, Garcia and Johnson are also ex-spouses. Yet, despite their divorce, the couple has remained close and, clearly, the best of business partners.

And along with owning the XFL, they also own and run Seven Bucks Production company, among several other business ventures, and have raised a daughter, Simone Johnson, together for the last 18 years. Simone will be following in her father’s footsteps as the newest wrestler for WWE.
