The incident occurred last month on July 31st and was reported to New Jersey police as a domestic violence incident. According to court documents, “patrol units were dispatched to Tropicana Atlantic City for a report of a domestic violence dispute. Officers arrived to find the victim, a 28-year-old woman from Miami Florida, speaking with hotel security.”

At the time of the incident, the unnamed woman “did not exhibit signs of injury” and did not intend to file a complaint against Gore. However, as investigators continued to work the scene, the NFL player ended up being “charged with simple assault related to the domestic violence incident.”

Gore is accused of “forcibly” grabbing the woman by her hair and “violently dragging her nude person along the floor of the 59th hallway.”

The 39-year-old athlete is currently awaiting a court date to determine if he will face jail time. “Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Atlantic City Police Department Criminal Investigations Section,” New Jersey police shared in a statement regarding the investigation. They included the sentiments, “the public is reminded that charges are mere allegations and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.”

Gore, who is yet to make a public comment addressing his charges, is considered one of the best running backs in NFL history. Earning 16,000 rushing yards during his 16-year career, he spent time with both the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Jets.

In the 10 years he spent with San Francisco, he was selected five times for the Pro Bowl and continues to lead as the franchise’s leader of rushing yards and the only player to have 212 rushing yards in a single season. He is also the NFL running back with the most game appearances.

Following his retirement from professional football, the athlete moved to Florida and decided to pursue a career in boxing. As a heavyweight boxer, he played his exhibition match in 2021 against former NBA player Deron Williams.
