‘It’s A Huge Relief For A Lot Of The Guys In The Locker Room To Get This Win’, After 14 Games, Jets Finally Get First Win Of The Season
The Jets were facing a potential historic season but a side of history I’m sure they didn’t want to be on as a winless NFL franchise. If New York lost the last few of its games, they’d go 0-16, one of only a handful of NFL teams to go winless in a season.
Facing another ‘L’, they took hold of the challenge and conquered it, getting a huge win for this team and this franchise. After a season where week-after-week equated to loss-after-loss, ladies and gentlemen, the New York Jets are now 1-13.
And the win didn’t come against just any team but a team that recently made it to the Super Bowl in the LA Rams.
“As somebody who has been through a lot of different things in my career, I don’t think I’ve seen a group more excited after a game than what I saw [Sunday] night,” Jets head coach Adam Gase said per ESPN.
Quarterback Sam Darnold had a 70.9% completion percentage against the Rams defense.
According to ESPN, Darnold said everyone was “super excited…super stoked…I know it’s a huge relief for a lot of the guys in the locker room to get this win…it means the world to us. Just a lot of emotions and excitement in the locker room after the game, and obviously, on the flight back, as well.”
And it’s not like the Jets got this win easily. They were up in the fourth quarter, the Rams scored 10 to come back but the Jets held on to get their first win of the season, fourteen games in, 23-20.
It took determination, heart, and hard work from, as the Jets put it, “all three phases to get the first W”. A Frank Gore rushing touchdown, a Bryce Hall, per the Jets, one-handed interception for his first career pick, a Ty Johnson receiving touchdown, the list goes on. That’s what you call a team win.
Jets fans, you are winners this week. Embrace it. Love it. Run with it. Because, as a Lions fan, I know what it’s like to go 0-16, not winning any games. So, give yourselves a pat on the back. Enjoy this day. And live to fight another day.
Just because it was a much anticipated win, here you go:
