Houston Texans safety player and boyfriend to world-renowned gymnast Simone Biles, Jonathan Owens has just been waived from the upcoming season.
Owens was initially in April of 2018 signed to the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals opted to waive him in 2019 and that’s when Houston got ahold of the 26-year-old. He was promoted to an active roster in November 2019, only to be pulled from the roster a few days later.
After being waived, he spent his time on the Texans’ practice squad. Similar to 2019, Houston could keep Owens on the practice squad during this season.

Owens and Simone Biles have been together for over a year and are very vocal about supporting one another’s athletic pursuits. In fact, Biles revealed in an interview with People, “I love watching him play because he has such a passion. He works so hard, so for him to be able to showcase that on the field is really exciting.”
Upon returning from the Tokyo Olympics, Biles has been spending her free time catching up on her boyfriend’s career as he prepared for the season. Posted up in the Houston Texans arena, Biles took to Instagram to tell the world her love for her boyfriend. “Watching #36 on game days is my favorite,” the gymnast wrote.
However, it’s not just Biles that vocalizes the support for her partner. Owens has also had his own ways of showing his support for his girlfriend’s talent, as well. Despite not being able to fly to Tokyo with Biles for the Olympics, he made a great cheerleader from the sidelines.
“Words can’t explain how proud I am of you right now,” Owens stated on Instagram after watching his girlfriend win a bronze medal for the balance beam competition.
Additionally, the Houston Texan has not stayed silent when Biles pulled out of various Olympic competitions after revealing she was struggling with mental health and staying physically safe. “Imma ride with you through whatever baby,” Owens conveyed on Instagram.
He continued his statement by offering, “Your strength and courage are unmatched and you inspire me more and more everyday SB 🤞🏽 You have always gone be my champ baby and don’t you ever forget that I love you so much and I can’t wait till you come home and I get to see that beautiful smile again. You know I’m always here for you baby.”
