Most people know Los Angeles Lakers player LeBron James for his outstanding basketball skills, but he has made sure to showcase his phenomenal fathering skills throughout the years as well.

Roughly four years ago, when LeBron’s youngest daughter Zhuri was 3, she was seen asking for candy in the middle of a Lakers game. Being the stellar dad that he is, James halted the game and retrieved candy for his beloved daughter to make her happy.

LeBron James’ most recent controvery

However, in more recent years, King James has been in the media due to his controversial stances on the COVID-19 virus. In late December, the basketball star shared a meme on his Instagram page that insinuated the virus is not serious and just as bad as the cold.

This stirred some controversy in many groups, but former NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was perhaps the most vocal about his opposition to the Lakers star’s take.

“With 106 million Instagram followers, making such a post is automatically politically impactful because he questions the validity of the efforts to get the country vaccinated,” Abdul-Jabbar wrote in a detailed essay that critiqued James. “As is evident by some of the comments that cheer LeBron’s post, he’s given support to those not getting vaccinated, which makes the situation for all of us worse by postponing our health and economic recovery.”

The 74-year-old former basketball player even noted, “While LeBron is a necessary and dynamic voice critical of police brutality against the Black community, he needs to be the same necessary and dynamic advocate with vaccines, which could save thousands of Black lives right now.”

Despite these critiques, James had very little to say about the situation when directly asked for a response in a press conference.

“No, I don’t have a response to Kareem at all,” he said. The basketball legend also went on to explain his side of the story and discussed that considering many common cold, flu, and COVID symptoms overlap, it can be hard to differentiate how different they all are.

He stated, “if you saw the post and you read the tag, you’re literally, honestly asking, ‘Help me out?’ Help me kind of figure it all out. We’re all trying to figure this pandemic out and the new strain.”
