When Lionel Messi helped lead Argentina to victory during the World Cup, he wasn’t expecting his celebratory photograph to become the most-liked image on Instagram.

Last Friday, the soccer legend officially surpassed the popular “egg photo,” posted by @world_record_egg, which has  58 million likes. However, the World Cup trophy hit 72 million likes as of Friday, making it the spot-liked image on the social media site.

“CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD,” the caption reads, paying homage to his team’s amazing accomplishment. “So many times I dreamed it, so much I wanted it that I still don’t fall, I can’t believe it…… Thank you so much to my family, to all who support me, and also to all who believed in us.”

“We prove once again that Argentinians when we fight together and united we are able to achieve what we aim. The merit is of this group, which is above individuals, is the strength of all fighting for the same dream that was also the one of all Argentinians,” Messi continued. “We did it!!! LET’S GO ARGENTINA DAMN!!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 We’re seeing each other very soon.”

“I won the Copa America and the World Cup quickly. I love what I do, being in the national team, and I want to continue living a few more games being world champion,” Messi explained in an interview following his team’s big win.

Messi, who also holds the record for most World Cup appearances in a single career, referred to his World Cup title as “a childhood dream.” and couldn’t be prouder of his significant accomplishment. “I was lucky to have achieved everything in this career … and this one that was missing is here,” he told TyC Sports. “It’s madness.”
