MMA Fighter Iuri Lapicus Left Dead at 27 Following Tragic Motorcycle Accident

Mixed martial artist luri Lapicus tragically passed away at the age of 27 in a Milan hospital following a sudden motorcycle crash in Italy.

“The ONE Championship team is heartbroken over the tragic passing of Iuri Lapicus,” the organization that represented the fighter wrote in a statement on Twitter. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Iuri.”

According to reports issued by Italian media, the accident involved a collision with a 69-year-old woman who was left “in shock” after the fighter “fell independently” from his motorcycle and was “allegedly thrown a few meters” after colliding with the woman’s vehicle. Upon hitting the ground, he slipped into a coma. He was transported to Niguarda Hospital in Milan via helicopter and remained in a coma until he passed away due to injury complications.

MMA reporter Al Zullino went on to confirm the 27-year-old’s death on Twitter, writing, “As confirmed by @MrTudorLeonte, Italian MMA fighter Iuri Lapicus is dead after a motorcycle crash. Iuri was 27, had 14-2-1 NC record, and competed under the ONE banner, where he faced legends in the likes of @Ealvarezfight and @ChristianLeeMMA. RIP.”

“Man, I’m in disbelief. Have talked to him from time to time, back in the day when I was still making interviews,” Zullino continued. “One of the humblest kids I’ve ever talked to. May he rest in peace.”

Lapicus’s journey as a mixed martial artist began at the age of 9 when he began casually practicing judo. Quickly advancing as an athlete, fighting became more than a hobby. As a talented young fighter, he moved to Italy at the age of 15 to pursue MMA as a professional career. He made his professional debut in 2014 and curated an impressive career over the years, his last recorded fight being Zebaztian Kadestam in August 2022.

According to Lapicus’s biography on the ONE Championship website, he was looking to advance and continue his career in mixed martial arts. “To date, Lapicus has competed exclusively in regional Italian promotions,” the fighter’s bio reads. “But he is now eager and excited for the opportunity to finally display his skills to ONE’s global audience.

With his life cut too soon, the mixed martial art community will continue to mourn the life of this talented fighter.
