‘Nobody Likes to Be Funny Anymore’: Brian Kelly Explains Execution Joke Following Post-Game Interview

After Notre Dame’s 41 to 38 overtime win against Florida State University, one might think Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly might be happy. And while he wasn’t upset over winning, he was more disappointed with his players’ performances.

Being ranked in the top ten and only beating an unranked team by three points in overtime isn’t necessarily what a coach expects. Especially after seven of FSU’s 38 points came after their backup quarterback lead the team downfield after not stepping on a football field since 2017 due to a serious injury.

Unfortunately, while talking about his team’s performance during a post-game interview, ND’s Brian Kelly talked about the way they executed during the first four quarters of the game. “I’m in favor of execution,” Kelly began telling sideline reporter Katie George before he made an off-color joke.

“Maybe our entire team needs to be executed after tonight. We just didn’t execute very well.”
