“For the longest time, I always knew I was going to be a father because of the way that I love kids. They’re close to my heart,” the athlete said during an interview with PEOPLE Magazine. Given his love for children, he was happy to become a dad following his former team’s Super Bowl win. Since then, he and his girlfriend Lauren Wood have been dedicated to parenthood and raising their 8-month-old son Zydn.

“It was the biggest blessing of my life. I always knew that it would be, but it really hits different when I was actually holding him,” Beckham said, recalling the day his son was born. “When I first met him and looked into his eyes — his very soulful eyes, very much like mine — you could tell he didn’t know anything about the world … it’s just happiness and joy.”

When discussing his relationship with fatherhood, Beckham added that he is “all in” when it comes to parental duties. Rather than slacking off, he is committed to raising his child and engaging in all the activities that make parents superstars – including changing diapers in the middle of the night.

Odell Beckham Jr. says that there is ‘nothing better’ for him than his 8-month-old son

“There’s nothing better for me than my son. I have been waiting on him for a very long time. I’m all in. I change the diapers. I get up in the middle of the night,” the NFL player explained. “His mom is still breastfeeding so sometimes I get that duty off, but [sometimes] it’s bottles in the middle of the night.”

Beckham has also been open about his parental role in Zydn’s life on social media. Taking to Instagram, the wide receiver shared with his audience that watching his son develop has been the most rewarding thing to ever happen to him.

“Best part is, gettin to see every single day the development, the smiles, the tears, and the fake tears, he’s starting to use his hands way more to pick things up!” Beckham shared in an Instagram post that depicted the NFL player and his son. “And of course the best part is him starrin u in ur eyes and grabbing ur face tryna pull himself in for kisses.”

He added, “I’m loving every second, every minute, even his lil gremlin azz in the am trying to wake us up! I love u son, daddy workin every day to make u proud.”
