Just Days After Revealing They Are Expecting, Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews Sleeping in Separate Rooms Following COVID Scare
After getting engaged on September 1, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his high school sweetheart, Brittany Matthews, revealed several days later that they are also expecting their first child together. Now, as a result of a recent COVID-19 scare, Mahomes and Matthews are sleeping in separate rooms.
Despite the Patriots being exposed to coronavirus and their quarterback Cam Newton testing positive, the Kansas City Chiefs still played New England Monday night. And while Newton sat out the October 5 game, Mahomes and other Chiefs personnel are on high alert after practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta’amu tested positive on Saturday, TMZ reported.
As did Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who Mahomes came in direct contact with following the game. “I was just trying to show respect to a great football player who I hope is getting better very quickly,” Mahomes said of their postgame hug. “I’ll just try to keep away from that and try not to do it again.”
So as a precaution, Mahomes and a pregnant Matthews are keeping their distance. “It’s something I think about every day,” the quarterback admitted while address COVID-19 concerns. “You have to think about that with her being pregnant and kind of that high-risk category.”
And the athlete says he remained strict about quaranting in his own corner of their home until his COVID test came back negative. “When I went home over the weekend, I slept in a different bedroom and stayed away from her as much as possible.”
And even though Mahomes is not positive for the virus, Brittany and their unborn child’s health remains his top priority. “I just try to do my part just to kind of keep myself away from her and social distance whenever stuff like this arises,” Mahomes added.
As of October 8, the Chiefs have not had any positive COVID tests following their matchup against the Patriots.
