Peloton Instructor Faces Criticism For Working Out After Announcing Pregnancy

Shaking my head. If you read this headline and you are disgusted that people would have the audacity to judge someone else’s business, then you get it.

So, get this. According to The Today Show (whose parent company NBC Universal is an investor in Peloton), after Peloton instructor and Vice President of fitness programming, Robin Arzón, announced she was pregnant “during a live-streamed class in September (of 2020)” Since then, Today reports “she’s been inundated with well wishes and support on Instagram. But occasionally, the mom-to-be will read a (judging) comment.”

“It’s usually about how I shouldn’t be working out so hard,” Arzón said to Today Health. “Any time I receive something like that, it lights a fire in me to stand in my power and to show the strength of a pregnant body. I didn’t relinquish being an athlete when I became pregnant…Vigorous exercise is actually beneficial for both mother and baby..I was never going to kick back.”

“I’m so over folks being ‘surprised’ by strength,” Arzón said in an Instagram post. “Too many times I’ve heard — ‘You’re strong for a woman’ and now, ‘You’re strong for a pregnant lady.’ Nah, I’m just STRONG. 💪🏽 Strength is my standard.”

For the comments that Today says makes the instructor’s “head spin”, if you really are hating, it’s just ignorance (as is in most cases).

Just read this from the American Pregnancy Association on if it’s safe to exercise while pregnant:

“Overall and in most cases, exercise is safe during pregnancy. You will usually find it is even recommended. Typically, the first rule of thumb is if you were physically active before you were pregnant, it is likely safe to remain active during pregnancy. More than likely, your healthcare provider will tell you to remain active, as long as it is comfortable and there are no other health conditions suggesting otherwise.”

Of course, everything in moderation. It’s about being careful and responding to what your body needs. And guess what? That’s Arzón’s body and she knows what’s best for her and her little one, as does her husband who knows what’s best for their family.

So, haters, stay in your lane. Just sayin’.

According to Today, “Arzón and her husband, Drew Butler…are keeping the sex of their firstborn a surprise. The lawyer-turned-fitness expert said she likes not knowing and is just excited for what the future holds.”

“My mission is to remind folks, women, that they are the most majestic, baddest creatures on this planet,” the instructor said per People. “No matter what birth you’re contemplating, no matter how you feel physically, focus on what you can do and let’s create areas of opportunity for that power.”

This is a fitting cue for that one song (you know it):

And just because it’s Peloton, we can’t forget the Bubba Watson Peloton posts in early 2020:
