Former US Women’s Open Champion Michelle Wie and husband Jonnie West welcomed their first child, Makenna on June 19. The couple who married in August of 2019, announced the birth on Instagram Saturday with a couple of heartwarming images.

Wie is a five-time winner on the LPGA Tour and West is the Director of Basketball Operations for the Golden State Warriors. The sports-loving couple are sure to attract a lot of congratulations from the biggest and brightest in the NBA and LPGA.

“I have waited my entire life to meet you.”

“Kenna baby, I have waited my entire life to meet you,” Wei shared in an emotional Instagram post. “Makenna Kamalei Yoona West, your daddy and I love you more than any words can describe. You are our entire [world] we can’t wait to watch you grow.”

The good news comes shortly after the couple married in August 2019 in Beverly Hills. The wedding was attended by some of the biggest names in sports including Stephen Curry, LPGA pros Danielle Kang, Jessica Korda, Marina AlexAlison Lee, and Alison Walshe. But, the brightest star of them all was the groom’s father, NBA legend Jerry West.

It seems like a lifetime since Wei announced her pregnancy in January.

“Babygirl, we love you so much already and we just can’t wait to meet you this summer!!” Wie wrote at the time.

Along with an adorable pair of trainers and a Nike onesie, the couple also shared a photo of the family dog in a t-shirt that says, “Big Brother.”

Wie had announced in June 2019, that she’d be taking a break from competing.

In June 2019, Wie announced that she’d not be competing for a while due to an ongoing wrist/hand injury. She recently began commentating for Golf Channel and appeared on the “Live From” set at the Players Championship before the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.

“I think being responsible for another life is scary,” she told Golfweek. “I can’t believe they are going to let us leave the hospital with her.”

Wie shot the lowest score ever by a woman competing on the PGA Tour with a 68 at Sony Open when she was just 14. She won five times on the LPGA Tour, the biggest at Pinehurst No. 2 in the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open.
