Rory McIlroy Shares Big News, He Is Now a Proud Father After Welcoming a Baby Girl Into the World in August
On September 3, professional golfer Rory McIlroy took to Instagram to give his fans a personal life update. McIlroy is officially a dad.
The news of his little one comes three years after McIlroy and former PGA employee Erica Stoll married in 2017. The couple first met in Florida during her time with the PGA and became friends before their relationship turned romantic, The Sun reported.
In an Instagram post, McIlroy introduced his baby girl to his fans, but refrained from sharing a picture of her and only shared a photo of her hand around one of his fingers.
As the golfer continued, he and Erica named their little one Poppy Kennedy McIlroy. She was born on “August 31st at 12:15pm. She is the absolute love of our lives. Mother and baby are doing great. Massive thank you to all the staff at Jupiter Medical Center and Dr. Sasha Melendy for their amazing care.”
The couple did not previously announce that they were expecting before announce Poppy’s birth. In his interview with The Sun, McIlroy said, the fact that he and Erica were friends first and how low-key his wife is, is what he loves most about their relationship. “The thing I love about it is that we were friends before anything romantic happened,” McIlroy said of his wife and now the mother of their child.
“We met when she was working for the PGA of America, and renting a condo in Palm Beach, and I found it refreshing being with someone who was living a normal life rather than, ‘Oh! My jet is 30 minutes late!’ I could speak to her about anything, we ended up spending a bit of time together and realized that there was something more there. I love that she knows everything about me, and there was no judgment there. There was no judgment from day one, which is huge because that’s very hard to find for someone in my position.”
The reveal of their daughter’s birth comes just one day before the start of the Tour Championship. A tournament McIlroy won last year.
