While the Seattle Seahawks’ 2021 season has been unfortunate, it has also raised some concerns about quarterback Russell Wilson and his future with the team.

On Sunday night’s game, the team walked away with their 11th game loss this season to the Chicago Bears. Following the loss, CBS reporter  Jason La Canfora suggested that the Seahawks are preparing to rebuild their team come offseason.

However, Canfora suggested that this rebuild could entail Wilson departing from Seattle, despite his entire professional career taking place with the Seahawks. “The prospect of a blockbuster trade remains very real, given the issues between the sides and sources said there could also be significant changes coming to the Seattle organization as well, with the team at a crossroads,” the reporter wrote

This season marks the first year in which the 33-year-old had to take time off in order to recover from an injury. Many attribute this factor as kickstarting Seattle’s rocky season. Yet, the team has continued to perform poorly even after Wilson returned. The blame has been pushed onto players and even their 70-year-old head coach Pete Carroll.

Carroll has been open with his admittance that he feels as if the situation can be traced back to him.

“I feel like I have to do more. In a time like this, I feel like I’ve got to find ways to help our guys more so that we don’t get in a situation where we even give them a chance,” the coach explained.

From Wilson’s perspective, he believes that the entire team could be performing better. He noted at the end of a recent press conference, “I feel like I have to do more. In a time like this, I feel like I’ve got to find ways to help our guys more so that we don’t get in a situation where we even give them a chance.”

“I think that everybody is trying to put the work in every day, and that’s the thing that is disappointing, too,” he continued. “Every guy is putting everything they have into it, and I think that’s where we want to be better.”

Although he has two more years left of his contract, Wilson’s future with the Seahawks remains unknown. As speculation has begun circulating whether or not he will extend his contract or will look into other teams, the quarterback is offering nothing to the media.

“That’s not in my head right now at all. I didn’t say that. I’m focused on what we’re doing here. Obviously, I love Seattle,” he said when asked if he is considering other teams in the future. He included, “This is a place that I’ve loved every day, every moment.”
