Michael Jordan, Ali, Tiger Woods, Bill Russell, Tom Brady, Jerry Rice, LeBron James, Mia Hamm, Rafael Nadal, Lionel Messi, Pelé, Lisa Leslie, Billie Jean King, Roger Federer (the list goes on)…how about Serena Williams. And not just greatest female athlete but the greatest athlete. Period.
Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, thinks so, as he posted a picture of him rocking a shirt that crosses out ‘female’ in ‘greatest female athlete’ and simply labels his bride as the ‘greatest athlete’. Ohaninan was watching his wife do her thing at the Australian Open.
Shout out to Ohanian for being a supportive spouse and championing his wife, as Serena has to be in the conversation for one of the greatest athletes of all time.
Williams has 23 Grand Slam tournament victories which is the record in women’s tennis (per Statista). That’s more than Federer and Nadal have as they both are tied at the record of most men’s tennis Grand Slam tourney wins at 20 a piece according to Statista.
So, tennis-wise, she’s the best when it comes to playing on the biggest stage in the form of Grand Slam tournaments.
Now, comparing to other sports, she’s in the conversation of one of the best athletes of all time. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments if you’d consider Serena the greatest athlete.
But, the real question you may be asking yourself is:
Where do I get this shirt?
While there may be some third-party sites selling these, the official site is on the Nike.com. It looks like they’re already out of some sizes, too.
The description of the shirt on Nike says: “Serena Williams continues to cement her legacy as one of the greatest athletes to ever play the game. Just months after earning her 23rd Grand Slam title in April 2017, Serena announced that she was 20 weeks pregnant—meaning that she’d been pregnant during her incredible win in Melbourne! The Serena Williams T-Shirt lets you celebrate her extraordinary accomplishments in the comfort of soft cotton.”
