Serena Williams' Amazing Sign Off After 27 Years of Professional Tennis

Serena Williams Reveals the Truth Behind Not Teaching Her 4-Year-Old Daughter How to Play Tennis

Tennis legend Serena Williams recently sat down on The Ellen Degeneres Show and explained why she doesn’t plan to personally teach her 4-year-old daughter how to play tennis.

Despite being largely regarded as one of the best tennis players of all time, the mother has no desire to take the time and showcase to others just how she obtained her gift- and that includes her daughter Olympia. According to the athlete herself, she said playing with non-professionals frustrates her and she doesn’t have the patience to teach.

“I don’t really like to play with people who don’t know how to play tennis well. It drives me nuts. So, I was like, ‘I can’t. I don’t have the patience for this,’ ” Williams said, speaking in regards to her daughter learning to play the sport. “So I signed her up for a private teacher.”

Although she has athletic talent literally embedded into her DNA, Olympia reportedly is only “alright” at tennis. According to her own mother, “She’s alright… [But] I’ve seen 4-year-olds that might take her out.”

However, through the use of private instruction, it seems as if the 4-year-old’s skills are rapidly improving. On a more realistic note, Williams also recognized that her daughter is very young and doesn’t want to force her to do anything she doesn’t want to do. “I don’t push her because I’m like, she’s 4,” she explained.

Rather than finding passion in tennis, Olympia prefers more age-appropriate hobbies, Williams shared. Talking with the show host, she relayed the information, “Her ambition is playing princess games. The more we can play anything with princesses, that’s her whole life.”

Perhaps one day we can see Olympia on a Wimbledon court, but as for now, she is enjoying her life as a carefree toddler.

As for Williams, the world isn’t sure what exactly to expect from the 40-year-old tennis star. As of last year, the athlete has not been playing professional tennis. During her appearance at the 2021 Wimbledon, she suffered a right-leg injury during her first match and withdrew from the rest of the competition. For months, no one knew what she planned to do next… until now.

Taking to Instagram, Williams explained she still plans on participating in Wimbledon. “We’ve been talking about my comeback, and he’s been hyping me up and getting me ready for Wimbledon,” she communicated, speaking in reference to Aaron Rodgers.
