LSU possesses countless past and present athletes with their own set of impressive talents. According to Shaquille O’Neal, who played for the school’s basketball team, there is one athlete that outshines them all.

During an appearance on The Big Pod, revealed he believes Angel Reese of the LSU women’s basketball program is the best athlete in the history of the school. “She’s probably the greatest athlete ever to come out of LSU sports. You heard it here first,” he said. “Male and female. Ever.”
Although Shaq himself holds a two-time All-American, two-time SEC Player of the Year, and even held the Adolph Rupp Player of the Year award in 1991 for his work on the Tigers, he is confident that Reese will go down in history.
Considering Reese led the Tigers this season with 23.3 points and 15.6 rebounds per game while picking up 34 double-doubles, it is no surprise that O’Neal believes the basketball star is something special. Especially when noting she helped the school are its first-ever national basketball title.

“See, a lot of us got the package, and we still got the package in our truck. She delivered that package,” O’Neal explained. “It’s a lot of names to throw around, men and women, but she is probably the greatest athlete. Some people are going to exclude ‘woman athletes.’ I’m not doing that.”

Despite this belief, many are quick to believe Joe Burrow, who currently quarterbacks the Cincinnati Bengals, is the best athlete to ever come out of Louisiana State University.
The quarterback transferred to the school from Ohio State and was quick to establish himself as an important aspect of the LSU football team. Similar to Reese, Burrow led the team to a national championship trophy in 2019. Today, he has a successful career in the NFL and at his young age, people believe he is destined to go down in history.
However, O’Neal is confident he doesn’t compare to Reese in the slightest. He proceeded to add the sentiments, “She is the greatest athlete to ever come out of LSU because she got it done. Joe Burrow got it done a couple of years ago, but she is way more athletic than he is.”
