Simone Biles Admits She Is Feeling the Pressure of the 2020 Olympics

At the young age of 24, Simone Biles is the most decorated U.S. gymnast of all time. But she’s still human.

Making her Olympic debut in 2013, the athlete has obtained four gold medals and one bronze placement. Biles is largely regarded as one of the best gymnasts of all time, and she certainly has the credentials to back that statement up. However, the American gymnast admitted in an Instagram post that she is feeling the pressure this Olympic season.

Simone Biles had a hard day!

“It wasn’t an easy day or my best but I got through it,” said Biles in the caption of her post after completing her performance during the preliminary rounds. According to NPR, Biles did receive the top score for the United States team, but she still had multiple penalties. The Russian Olympic Committee beat the U.S. by one point, the ultimate results being 171.62 to 170.56.

The decorated gymnast went on to explain, “I truly do feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times. I know I brush it off and make it seem like pressure doesn’t affect me but damn sometimes it’s hard hahaha!”

Additionally, she added, “The olympics is no joke! BUT I’m happy my family was able to be with me virtually,” because “they mean the world to me!”

Despite the fact that this gymnast is a world-renowned athlete, it is no surprise that even Olympians have their off days. Even more impressively, an off day for Biles still earned her the top score on the U.S. team. She also stated to reporters after the competition that she believed her team’s performance was overall positive.

“I feel we did a pretty good job,” said Biles. “Obviously there are little things we need to work on, so we’ll go back and practice and work on that, just so we can do our best performance at team finals, because that’s what matters.”

More likely than not, the U.S. team’s final performance will be nothing short of legendary. Especially when considering the fact that Biles has been practing the Yurchenko double pike vault – one of the most difficult moves a gymnast can perform. The move requires the gymnast to backflip off of the vault and then complete two full rotations before landing the move. Excitedly, Biles may bring this move to the final stage.
