According to an anonymous source close to the couple, NFL legend Tom Brady and his supermodel wife Gisele Bündchen are in a disagreement over his decision to return to the field.
Despite initially announcing his retirement at the end of last year’s NFL season, the 45-year-old quarterback was quick to go against the decision. And, apparently, this quick un-retirement has been the subject of controversy in the Brady-Gündchen household.
“There’s a lot of tension. She was so happy when he announced his retirement, and she wasn’t thrilled at all when he went back on that,” the insider reported to PEOPLE.
“They’re hitting a rough patch,” the source continued. “But I know they’re trying, or at least he’s trying, to figure it out and make it work. He wants to get through this and for things to get better.”
Considering this information, many fans are wondering if the reason for Brady’s 11-day absence from training camp was attributed to this so-called rough patch. A few weeks ago, the quarterback was missing from important team responsibilities for well over a week and when he returned, he had vague answers to give about his whereabouts.
“Everyone has different situations they’re dealing with, and we all have unique challenges to our lives,” the father said in a press conference upon his return to the field. “I’m 45 years old, man.”

He added the sentiments, “There’s a lot of s— going on, so you just have to try and figure out life the best you can. You know, it’s a continuous process.”
Reflecting on the earlier years of Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen
The couple married in February of 2009 and since then, they have experienced multiple rough patches. In 2020, Brady admitted on The Howard Stern Show that his wife wasn’t satisfied with their marriage.
He shared with the host, “A couple of years ago, she didn’t feel like I was doing my part for the family. She felt like I would play football all season and she would take care of the house, and then all of a sudden when the season ended, I’d be like, ‘Great, let me get into all of my other business activities. Let me get into my football training,’ and she’s sitting there going, ‘Well when are you going to do things for the house? When are you going to take the kids to school and do that?’ “
