Tom Brady is Excited to Join the WNBA Family in Upcoming 2023 Season

After announcing his retirement from playing professional football, Tom Brady isn’t ready to say goodbye to the sports world altogether.

Following his 23rd season in the NFL, the legendary quarterback took to Instagram and shared he was not returning for a 24th season.

“I’m retiring for good. I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning, I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first,” he said in a video posted in February of this year. “So I won’t be long-winded. I think you only get one super-emotional retirement essay, and I used mine up last year.”

Since this was Brady’s initially announced his retirement in 2022 but decided to return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for one last season, a plan was already in store for him when he officially decided to retire from the sport. Last May, Fox Sports was proud to say Brady would join their network as a lead color commentator. While this job will keep the former athlete occupied, it seems he has more than one plan for retirement.

On Thursday, the Women’s National Basketball Association announced that the former Tampa Bay quarterback acquired an ownership interest in the Las Vegas Aces of the WNBA.

Tom Brady buys a partial stake in the Las Vegas Aces franchise.

“I am very excited to be part of the Las Vegas Aces organization,” Brady said in a statement released by the team. “My love for women’s sports began at a young age when I would tag along to all my older sisters’ games — They were by far the best athletes in our house! We celebrated their accomplishments together as a family, and they remain a great inspiration to me.”

Continuing, he expressed excitement over being able to participate in such an important aspect of the sports world. More specifically, he noted the Las Vegas Aces have an impressive work ethic that he admires.

“I have always been a huge fan of women’s sports, and I admire the work that the Aces’ players, staff, and the WNBA continue to do to grow the sport and empower future generations of athletes,” Brady explained. “To be able to contribute in any way to that mission as a member of the Aces organization is an incredible honor.”

In a follow-up statement, fellow Las Vegas Aces franchise owner Mark Davis was happy to confirm Brady’s work with the team. Davis stated, “Since I purchased the Aces, our goal has been to win on and off the court. Tom Brady is a win not only for the Aces and the WNBA but for women’s professional sports as a whole.”
