Is Tom Brady Retiring? Here’s What He Had to Say for Himself on Monday

When ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Tom Brady is retiring from football on Saturday, the entire sports community was surprised. As everyone began to share their memories and stories of Tom Brady on social media, we were hit with some conflicting news that shook us even more.

An hour after his original tweet, Schefter shared a text from Don Yee, Tom Brady’s agent, that stated, “Without getting into the accuracy or inaccuracy of what’s being reported, Tom will be the only person to express his plans with complete accuracy,” essentially denying the reports.

This was later confirmed by Bally Sports’ Michael Silver in a tweet that said Brady contacted Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Jason Licht to tell him a decision has not yet been made on his retirement. He also added that there was still no timetable, but it should be happening soon.

Finally, Tom Brady’s father – Tom Brady Sr. – chimed in and confirmed his son hasn’t made a decision yet. Brady Sr. added that an “online publication started circulating an unsubstantiated rumor,” which was then picked up by some NFL insiders. Saturday was an interesting day.

What Does Tom Brady Have to Say About This?

With all the speculation and confusion surrounding Brady’s alleged decision to retire, there’s one person we all couldn’t wait to hear from – the man himself. On Monday night, Brady finally broke his silence on his Let’s Go! Podcast after spending the weekend out of the country.

Brady, alongside his co-host Jim Gray, reiterated what he has been saying ever since the middle of January when people started to ask what his plans are next season. On the podcast, he confirmed that he was still contemplating his decision and nothing has been decided yet.

He added, “I’m just still going through the process that I said I was going through. Sometimes it takes some time to really evaluate how you feel and what you want to do and I think when the time’s right I’ll be ready to make a decision one way or the other just like I said last week.”

Tom Brady has remained adamant about making the best decision for himself and his family – something he has remained true to ever since he entered the league. That’s not going to change and he’s going to take as much time as he needs. He has earned that right in his storied career.

Brady spent 20 seasons with the New England Patriots and won six of the nine Super Bowls during that time. He has spent the past two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has already won one Super Bowl with them – bringing his total to a record seven Super Bowl wins.
