Despite only coaching in the NFL for under a year, Urban Meyer‘s position as head coach for the Jaguars has been terminated.
The Jacksonville Jaguars owner, Shad Khan, issued the information to the public earlier this week. Relayed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Twitter, Khan wrote, “After deliberation over many weeks and a thorough analysis of the entirety of Urban’s tenure with our team, I am bitterly disappointed to arrive at the conclusion that an immediate change is imperative for everyone.”
“I informed Urban of the change this evening. As I stated in October, regaining our trust and respect was essential. Regrettably, it did not happen,” the owner continued.
Meyer was initially brought onto the Jaguars team when they were in desperate need of leadership change. Figuring that the Ohio State football coach would be the right man for the job, he was offered a 5-year in January of 2021. However, throughout his short time with the team, his actions have been nothing short of questionable.

Why did Urban Meyer get fired from his job as head coach?
While he was critiqued for his behavior on the team, he also made headlines when a video of him went viral grinding with a younger woman that was not his wife. Plenty have criticized him for childlike behavior on the field, as well as his 2-11 winning streak this season, but he also faced scrutiny for how he acts towards women. Due to these factors, Meyer’s time with the Jaguars had an expiration date.
However, Meyer’s daughter Gigi was publically angered when the news of her father broke. She took to Instagram to share her displeasure with the media’s portrayal of her dad. “The enemy wants us to crumble & crawl into a hole. But I think you just released the Kraken in me,” she wrote. “This isn’t about people’s opinions. I don’t care. But when there’s lies & ppl full on after my family… Then I have a problem & I won’t stay quiet.”
Khan went on to explain the plan’s moving toward during this season. “Trent Baalke continues as our general manager and will work with Darrell (Bevell) to ensure that our team will be inspired and competitive while representing Jacksonville proudly over our final four games of the season,” he commented.
The owner then concluded, “In the spirit of closure and recharging our players, staff, and fan base, I will not comment further until some point following the conclusion of the NFL season.”
