Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, 23, Reflects on Railing Collapse and Wants to Ensure Safety For the Future

Why the 57th Super Bowl Will Be Historic and Remembered Forever

Super Bowl LVII, the upcoming event set to occur on February 12th, 2023, will feature the Kansas City Chiefs going head-to-head against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Every year, the Super Bowl is the largest event to occur at the end of each NFL season. The annual game is the most celebrated game of the year and determines the league’s championship team.

No matter what, the playoff game is high stakes and highly anticipated. However, this year’s finale is a little bit different; in fact, it is expected to go down in history. This year marks the first time in history two Black starting quarterbacks will face off, and it is the first time two brothers will play against each other.

The 57th annual Super Bowl marks the first ever in NFL history that showcases two starting Black quarterbacks. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is going up against Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Within sports, “racial stacking,” the idea of assigning on-field positions based on racial stereotypes, has been prevalent. In football, history has told us that it was rare to see a Black player cast as a quarterback as harmful stereotypes pushed false narratives.

In the past, being that the position is largely based on strategy, Black athletes were harmfully stereotyped as not smart enough. This year’s Super Bowl showcases the progression of society, as seen through this historical achievement.

Jason and Travis Kelce are the first brothers in Super Bowl history to face each other

Furthermore, Super Bowl LVII is the first game to exhibit two brothers playing against each other, bringing the term “sibling rivalry” to a whole new level. Travis Kelce is a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, and he will be meeting his brother Jason, who plays center for the Philadelphia Eagles, on the field.

“It’s an incredible moment for me and our family,” Jason said at Super Bowl LVII Opening Night. “Whoever wins this one is going to have the ultimate bragging rights. We’re always rooting for each other, I always want him to do well, but I would sure love to have this one over his head and have at least something over top of Trav.”

Both brothers separately hold championship wins, but this year the pressure is worse than before. While it is an historic event, their mother, Donna Kelce admitted it’s a strange thing to experience.

“It’s your hopes and dreams coming true, but it’s your worst fears,” Donna said during an interview. “You know somebody’s going to go home a loser, and neither one of them lose very well.”
