In November 2021, a video of former NFL player Zac Stacy attacking his ex-girlfriend Kristin Evans was released to the public. Since then, he has been sentenced to six months in jail and one year of probation.

At the time of the attack, Evans said her ex-boyfriend “showed no signs of remorse, and he ran to another state, so I released the videos so he would get arrested.”

While he attempted to flee the state of Florida, Stacy was arrested at the Orlando International Airport and charged with aggravated battery and criminal mischief. As of this month, the running back pleaded guilty to two charges of criminal mischief in Orange County, Florida, and was sentenced to prison.

However, since his conviction, Evans has advocated for mental health treatment instead of jail time.

“Jail does not offer resources needed for mental health patients,” Evans wrote in the caption of a social media post. “It is not rehabilitative. The jail and prison system is a punishment in an authoritarian society made to oppress.
I didn’t advocate for jail because of the lack of resources, the lack of rehabilitation, the lack of education for mental health, and the psychological effect it may have on our son.”

Noting that Stacy has already built a strong relationship with their son, she believes his prison sentence is counterproductive. Additionally, she shared that her ex-boyfriend has made significant strides to improve himself for the sake of his family.

“He decided to change,” Evans said, speaking of Stacy. “Through cognitive behavioral therapy, he was able to make a significant adjustment in his behavior and communication. And over the last six months, he’s consistently shown an improvement as well as our son enjoying spending time with him.”

The mother continued and shared that she isn’t trying to let Stacy off the hook and rather thinks that mental health rehabilitation is what is best for their son. She explained, “I have to speak to this man and exchange a child and co-parent a child with this man for the rest of my life.”
