Aaron Rodgers Strikes Astonishing $150 Million Deal With the Packers

It seems as if quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ future with the Green Bay Packers is looking pretty rich… for a few reasons. 

For months, the 38-year-old NFL star has given very ambiguous answers to whether or not his future was with Green Bay, another team, or if his professional playing career was coming to a close. This week, fans and NFL insiders alike received the answer everyone has been patiently waiting for. 

“We are very pleased to be able to come to an agreement with Aaron that keeps him in Green Bay,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst revealed in a statement, according to ESPN. “His play on the field and leadership in our locker room remain vital in our pursuit of another Super Bowl title. The agreement also allows us to maintain and enhance what we feel is already a very competitive roster.”

But, this has stirred the question: Just how much does it cost to keep Aaron Rodgers on the Packers? The answer might shock you.

For $150 million, Rodgers is practically bound to the Packers for the next two seasons. The recent contract also includes two voidable years in 2025 and 2026, as relayed by ESPN. Within the contents of the deal, there are four seasons total, two final seasons which essentially serve as placeholders to reduce cap numbers. 

ESPN reported that the quarterback will be receiving “$41.95 million this season, which is fully guaranteed in the form of a $40.8 million roster bonus” and by 2023, “$59.465 million also is guaranteed. In 2024, his $49.25 million is guaranteed only against injury at the time of signing.” 

However, this deal calls to question what the Packers will be doing with their backup quarterback Jordan Love. The decision to draft love was made in 2020, but with this contract in mind, it raises a few questions about whether or not patiently waiting to play for the Packers is a smart decision. Although Rodgers admitted he doesn’t know what his future holds as he continues to age, it seems like Green Bay has him for at least another three, possibly four, years. 

He has described wanting to play into his 40s, but admitted that it “may not be a reality at this point,” and even shared, “I’m just not sure how that all works together at this point.”
