Did Marcus Morris Intentionally Steps on Mavericks Star, Luka Doncic’s Sprained Ankle?
On Sunday night, Dallas Mavericks star, Luka Doncic, hit a step back, buzzer-beating three in overtime to send the Mavericks into game 5 even with the Clippers at two games apiece.
In-game 5, the Clippers came out hungry, playing with an intensity that quickly stirred up emotions in the playoff game even with Los Angeles’s monster lead. A combined 6 technical fouls were called before the 4th quarter, along with Maverick’s coach, Rick Carlisle, getting ejected.
However despite all of the fouls and high emotions, the story of the game was not related to Rick Carlisle getting ejected, or Paul George scoring 35 points. It was Clippers, Marcus Morris, stepping on the shoe of Doncic’s sprained left ankle.
After a three from Paul George one minute into the third quarter, Doncic stood in the paint area under the hoop awaiting the inbound pass when Clipper’s forward, Marcus Morris stepped on Luka’s stationary left shoe causing it to fall off as Luke lifted his foot up.

After the game, Morris responded to accusations of foul play, on Twitter, “I play this game with a level of respect for myself and other players. To think I would try to injure somebody is crazy to me. 10 years going against the best. I stand on morals and hard work. I compete and leave it out there every game.”
What Morris left out in his tweet is what makes it hard to believe him in the first place. In his last 7 seasons, Morris has received 59 technical fouls (8 of them flagrant) and four ejections. That combined with him throwing a ball at Wizards forward, Justin Anderson’s head, as well as driving a knee into Sixer’s star, Ben Simmon’s head, reveals Morris’s poor judgment in the heat of the moment.
When asked after the game about the incident, DOncic said, “I have my own thoughts. I hope it wasn’t intentional. Tell me what you think.” Doncic added on, “I don’t want to talk to him. He’s just saying a lot of bad stuff to me all the game. I just don’t want to talk to him. I just want to move on. Like I say, everybody is going to have their own opinion. I just hope it wasn’t intentional. If that was intentional, that’s really bad.”
