For all you parents and coaches out there, you know you want your child or student-athlete to succeed at whatever his or her dreams are. It takes hard work, determination, and discipline to get there. Having an actual good coach who can come alongside your child or student-athlete could help, as well.
What if I told you (cue all those 30 for 30 ESPN documentary intros) that you could have 23-time Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps teach your child or student-athlete?
Seriously.
“Everyone always asks me, ‘How’d you do it? How’d you win all those golds?'” Phelps said in a Instagram post. “Now, for the first time ever, I’m going to share my secrets with you: how I trained, how I thought, and how I mastered the fundamentals during my career.”
Phelps announced he is now with The Skills’ program. The Skills was launched in 2020 and is a streaming service you can purchase “where the greatest athletes teach lessons in sports, wellness & the intangibles”.
Essentially, you pay for the service and can get coached by athletes from various sports. Among multiple athletes having courses, Shaun White teaches snowboarding and creativity, Larry Fitzgerald teaches football and leadership, and Phelps teaches swimming and mindset.
The Skills’ Phelps teaching course has 20 video sessions with more than 100 minutes of coaching. Those courses range from “how to achieve greatness” to “goal setting” to the fundamentals of swimming, including the butterfly, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, kicking, and diving.
The Skills excitedly announced Phelps as one of their new coaches in December 2020:
