Sidney Crosby Celebrates His 1000th Game
Pittsburgh Penguins star forward, Sidney Crosby, played in his 1,000th game Saturday. He was drafted by the Penguins in 2005, and has played for them his entire career, winning 3 championships with them over his time (2009, 2016, 2017). During his career, the future Hall of Famer won the MVP twice (2007, 2014) and he is currently 3rd on the point leaderboard among active NHL players.
Crosby, who is now 33, still has a few years of NHL play ahead of him, and he hopes to climb up the all-time point leaderboard, in addition to adding a couple more championships to his resumé.
Before the Penguins played the New York Islanders, they had a tribute to Crosby, in which all of their players rocked his number: 87, and the team played a tribute video on the JumboTron.
The video was a combination of Crosby highlights and interviews, featuring conversations with Crosby’s family, teammates, coaches, and competitors. Sidney was also presented with a golden hockey stick, and a mosaic commemorating the milestone.

Undoubtedly improving his important milestone, the Penguins were able to win, beating the Islanders 3-2 with two clutch 3rd period goals. One of these was scored by Sidney’s teammates from day 1, Chris Letang. Letang was also drafted by the Penguins in 2005, so his solid performance made the day even more special.
In an interview with ESPN, he said that “It was a pretty awesome experience and a day I will always remember. It was even sweeter that we were able to win.”
So to Sidney, here’s to the next 1000!
