Thomas Davis Sr. has been considered multiple times one of the NFL’s Top 100 players. In his 16th NFL season and currently a linebacker with the Washington Football Team, Davis Sr. recently announced his retirement.

The linebacker said he’d be playing in his last regular season football game (which ended up being an epic one to send Washington to the playoffs against their division rival).

The linebacker made the announcement in a post with customized cleats, highlighting his NFL career, one that was filled with overcoming adversity.

“This weekend will be my last regular season football game ever,” Davis Sr. said. “Mache (shoe designer) helped me go down memory lane and reflect on a few things that I’ve been able to accomplish over my 16 yrs of being in the NFL.”

The cleats showcase his three-time Pro Bowl status, being All-Pro, and the 2014 Walter Payton Man of The Year Award winner.

Along with winning the prestigious Walter Payton Man of The Year out of the whole NFL that year for his work on the field and in the community especially, what stands out is what’s shown near the ankle of those Nike’s:

“3 ACL tears…3 ACL recoveries”

“Sometimes things can happen that cause you to feel unworthy, just know that No man can steal what God had already planned for your life!” Davis Sr. continued to say in the post. “I’m extremely blessed and thankful for every opportunity that I’ve earned because nothing is ever given to you! You work your butt off and you pray that God’s plan aligns with yours!”

The NFL community showed Davis love in the comments:

“One of my favorite teammates I ever played with,” Greg Olsen said. “You earned everything you got. Honor to play alongside for all those years. See you back home buddy.”

“Congrats on an amazing career bro!” Darius Butler commented.

“🐐 thanks for everything,” Delvin Breaux Sr. said.

“Congrats man!! You had a (heck of a) career overcame a lot!!! Much respect!!✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽” Glover Quin Jr said.

“Truly enjoyed your journey, Thomas Davis, Gold Jacket next… got my 🍿 ready!!!!” Jovan Haye commented.

“Bravo Bro! You did what many couldn’t do and did it with the style and Grace !! Real winner in this game and life 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾,” Marcus Spears said.

Now, Davis will be looking forward to spending time with his family.

But first, he’s got another game to play as his squad snuck into the playoffs with a 7-9 record to win the NFC East.

That playoff game just so happens to be against Tom Brady and the Bucs. A good offense that Davis Sr. and his defense will be going up against. But, that’s nothing new for this veteran. This’ll be Davis Sr.’s seventh time in the NFL playoffs.

And hey, you never know. Maybe he’ll need to save a spot on those cleats for another trophy because as we know, once you get to the playoffs. Anything can happen.
