Promising Young Running Back, Derrius Guice, Dropped by the Washington Football Team After Being Charged In Three Domestic Violence Incidents
On Friday, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office received arrest warrants for The Washington Football Team’s running back, Derrius Guice. Guice was charged with one count of strangulation, three counts of assault and battery, and one count of destruction of property stemming from three separate domestic violence incidents, taking place on February 14, March 13, and April 17 of 2020.
Guice fell from a first-round draft projection to the 59th pick of the 2018 draft after there was uncertainty surrounding his character. Guice has not seen a lot of snaps on the Redskins due to a torn ACL, meniscus, and medial collateral ligament.
Guice’s attorney, Peter Greenspun, released an angry statement following his arrest Friday, “The failure to fully investigate allegations of events, which allegedly took place months ago, is inexplicable. Derrius will defend these charges in court, where a full vetting of allegations will take place, in contract to actions by local law enforcement and the Washington Football Team that assumed the worst, directly contradicting every sense of fairness and due process.”
Greenspun elaborated on the incompetence of the Sherriff’s office, “Unfortunately, the investigators did not seek a statement or any input from Derrius before the warrants were issued… The failure to fully investigate allegations of events, which allegedly took place months ago, is inexplicable.”

After recent sexual harassment allegations against employees of The Washington Football Team, they were quick to release Guice, not wanting more controversy within the organization: “This afternoon we learned that there were multiple charges filed against Derrius. Upon review of the nature of these charges and following internal discussions, we have decided to release Derrius immediately.”
