Erin and Cassie Murphy Will Bring Newborn Baby to Milwaukee Brewers Opening Day After the Team Changed Their Lives

When Erin and Cassie Murphy attended a Milwaukee Brewers game last April, the last thing they expected was for their lives to permanently change.

For the Milwaukee couple, having children was an important aspect of growing their family. Unfortunately, they suffered through infertility issues. With raising a child being so integral to their family, they underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) which Cassie described as an “expensive and emotional” process that cost over $20,000 in the first 18 months of treatment.

Tragically for the Murphys their first round of treatment also resulted in a miscarriage. Trying to stay optimistic about their financial and familial situation, they carried about their life and enjoyed quality time together. For them, this meant attending their local Milwaukee Brewers games and enjoying a beer. Despite this being such a normal activity, it forever changed the Murphys’ future.

Through their beer purchase, the two ended up buying $20 worth of 50/50 raffle tickets. To their surprise, they won the raffle.

“I was chatting with the people sitting next to us, and they were announcing the numbers, and Erin was like, ‘Oh my God, I think we won,'” Cassie told during an interview with USA Today.

“She hands me the tickets, I’m looking at the ticket, screen, and I just screamed. Erin was like, ‘Be quiet!’ — This is the New Englander in her — ‘Be quiet; someone’s going to (steal) our tickets!’ ” she continued, reflecting on the entire experience.

Erin and Cassie Murphy used the raffle winnings to pay for fertility treatment.

The raffle prize was a total of $18,470, almost exactly the amount the Murphys needed to pay for another round of IVF treatment. Immediately, they knew how they were going to spend their earnings.

“It was like almost to the dollar amount we needed to do another round,” the couple explained. “When we did find out that we won that night, we ran up to the Brewers’ foundation desk, and there were three women behind the counter, and we told them, and everybody started crying.”

Amazingly, the pair was excited to announce two months later that they were expecting a baby boy.

Today, the Murphys are the parents of a wonderful newborn son named Foster — nicknamed “Fozi” — who is just as much of a Brewers fan as his moms. According to the parents, they are happy to have the baseball team to thank for their growing family. “The Brewers have a bit more meaning to us than just baseball,” said the family.
