12 Amazing, and Sometimes Thought-Provoking, Kyrie Irving Quotes

When it comes to athletes and their obligation to speak to the media, it’s fairly often that you’re going to get a good sound bite. Sure, it may not be the answer the reporter was looking for, but it’s usually something that can still be used.

And when it comes to one particular basketball player, known as Kyrie Iriving, he’s got a bit of a reputation for giving out amazing, and sometimes head scratching quotes, during his 10 years in the NBA. And we are here to celebrate that.

So in honor of Irving and the Brooklyn Nets run at the championship, here are some of our favorite Kyrie Irving quotes.

This is what Irving had to say about music when asked about in 2011 while talking with ESPN:

“I’ve been musically inclined since I picked up an instrument in the fourth grade. I just really appreciate music. I love to listen to it; I love to sing. I wouldn’t consider myself, like, a natural singer. I just developed it over time, honestly, just listening. I’m a great listener to music.” -Kyrie, 2011, ESPN 

And when it came to one of his favorite movies, Irving had a lot to say about ‘Grease’ to NBA.com:

“’Grease’ is an awesome movie. I wish they’d make a new one, more for our time. The graphics are terrible when you look back on it.” -Kyrie, 2012, NBA.com

For those of you who are unaware, Irving was born in Australia and has dual citizenship. And once questioned who he would play for if being asked to be a part of the national team. In the end, Irving played for the United States and not Australia:

“When it applies to the Olympics and making a decision, I have to claim Australia as my country.” – Kyrie, 2012, Reuters

Irving also reportedly believes the earth is flat. This is part of what he had to say about that:

“This is not a conspiracy. The Earth is flat. What I’ve been taught is that the earth is round. But if you really think about it from a landscape of the way we travel, the way we move, and the fact that can you really think of us rotating around the sun and all planets aligned, rotating in specific dates, being perpendicular with what’s going on with these planets.” -Kyrie, 2017, NBC Sports. 

Many people were also confused when Kyrie Irving made this quote while a member of the Celtics:

“I did some coaching on the plane, myself,” Irving told Salters. “I helped Brad, I helped coach Stevens with some coaching.” Kyrie, 2019, NESN
