JJ Watt, 33, Admits He ‘Felt Like a Wimp’ When He Discovered a Snake in His Bathroom

Arizona Cardinals defensive end JJ Watt recently opened up about the time he found a baby snake in his bathroom. The kicker? He was scared out of his mind.

In March of 2021, the NFL player found himself relocating from Texas to Arizona after Houston released him from his contract and he was picked up by the Cardinals. He spent ten years with the Houston Texans and undoubtedly, adjusting to a new team can have its stresses.

Yet, it seems that the worst part of the big move has been acclimating to Arizona’s climate and the critters that come with it.

Considering the NFL star is a native of Wisconsin, adapting to life in Arizona is particularly tricky, especially when comparing the wildlife. In Wisconsin, a bear or an elk is common to see, and they often stay far away from the home. However, in Arizona, scorpions and rattlesnakes are common animals and they even make their way into residential homes.

Going about his business as usual in his new Arizona home, the Midwestern native discovered what he thought to be a baby rattlesnake in his bathroom and sought advice on his Twitter page.

“Alright Arizona, this is a new one for me… I’ve got a baby rattlesnake in my bathroom. What do I do?” Watt wrote on social media, begging his fans to weigh in on the issue.

Making the executive decision to call for help, Watt was stunned to find out the snake he initially feared could take his life was not so dangerous after all. Returning to Twitter, he posted a video that detailed his encounter with this so-called “baby rattlesnake.”

“I’m from Wisconsin, I don’t have a lot of experience with snakes. Couple of garden snakes here or there, couple in Houston, but don’t know a lot about snakes. Don’t know how to handle snakes. Not a big fan of snakes,” Watt began in his video, contextualizing his thoughts on the matter.

What kind of snake was hiding in JJ Watt’s Arizona bathroom?

He continued recalling the incident of finding a tiny snake in his bathroom and explained why he was particularly frightened. The athlete explained, “Babies are the most venomous rattlesnakes because they don’t know how to handle their venom. They shoot it all in their first bite.’ So I got all of this stuff in my head.”

But, when the expert he called to remove the baby got to his house, he was shocked to see the man pick up the snake with his bare fists. “I call this guy and he comes out to the house and he takes a look at it and he just picks it up with his bare hands. And he goes ‘ah, it’s not a rattlesnake. It’s a long-nosed snake. Completely harmless.’ And then he left,” Watt revealed.

Adding in a joke at the end, Watt admitted, “So, if you ever want to feel like a wimp, that’s the way to do it.”
