Remember the Name Alyssa Nakken Because She Just Went Down in MLB History
As a sports fan, Alyssa Nakken is a name youβre going to want to remember. On July 20, Nakken went down in MLB history as the first female assistant Major League Baseball coach to coach first base.
Nakken, who is a member of the San Francisco Giants organization, took the field late in the Giants matchup against the Oakland Aβs. The Giants won 6 to 2.

And this isnβt the first time Nakken made history. When she was hired by Giants manager Gabe Kapler in January, she was the first female coach in MLB history, period. She and those who know her reportedly played it cool when she made history, saying that they werenβt surprised it was Alyssa Nakken who broke this particular glass ceiling.
Now 30 years old, Nakken joined the Giants in 2014 as a baseball operations intern, Yahoo! Sports reported. And over the years, she learned the ins and outs of the organization. As an athlete herself, from 2009 to 2012, she was a three-time All-Conference selection and four-time Academic All-American as a first baseman for Sacramento Stateβs softball team.
And the men she coaches find her historic success pretty awesome as well.
After hiring Alyssa Nakken as a coach at the beginning of the year, Kapler called her a βhighly respectedβ member of the Giantsβ organization.
βAlyssa and Mark are highly respected members of the organization, and Iβm delighted that they will now focus their talents on helping to build a winning culture in the clubhouse. In every organization, environment affects performance, and baseball clubhouses are no different.β
Although the MLB is still in its shortened preseason, itβs unclear if Kapler will make a similar call to have the 30-year-old coach first base during the 60-game regular season that set to begin this weekend.
