2-Time Super Bowl Champ Travis Kelce Proves He’s Terrible at Baseball During Cleveland Guardians Game

After Travis Kelce threw the first pitch in his hometown at the Cleveland Guardians game against the Seattle Mariners, most people can agree that football was the right sport for him.

The two-time Super Bowl champion mustered up all of his might to throw a calculated pitch across the baseball diamond, which unfortunately hit the ground and bounced back. The throw was so wild it caused Guardians pitcher Shane Bieber to duck for cover, prompting Kelce to run over and comfort the scared pitched with a hug.

“Been spiking a football for the past 10 years… can you tell? ”, the tight end said on Twitter after his hilarious fail went viral all across the internet.

What is perhaps the most surprising aspect of the situation is Kelce’s history with baseball. As a senior in high school, the 6-foot-5, 250-pound NFL star was compared to former American League MVP Josh Hamilton by an Atlanta Braves scout.

“He seemed like a big leaguer on a field of high school players,” said Reggie Sanders, who scouted for the Braves in the Ohio area. “He looks almost the same size today as he was in high school… I remember writing his report and I comped him to Josh Hamilton.”

Although he was once a Major League prospect, it’s clear his baseball skills have been dormant. For Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, this was a very entertaining fact.

Taking to Twitter, Kelce’s teammate did not hesitate to ruthlessly make fun of the tight end for his lack of pitching skills. “Ayyyyyy bruhhhhhhhhh @tkelce,” Mahomes said in response to a video of the incident.

In a follow-up tweet, the quarterback added, “Ayyy @Royals let’s give him another chance. ASAP!!!”

While Mahomes did not hold back his thoughts on his fellow player’s pitching skills, he is perhaps the one who is most valid in doing so. Prior to being drafted into the NFL, the quarterback was a relief pitcher for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and even went on to be drafted in the 2014 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers as a 37th-round pick.

With this being said, it’s definitely possible Kelce could use some pointers on how to throw a pitch next time he takes to the baseball diamond.
