Rafael Devers Has 4th Multi-HR Game of Season and 16th Multi-HR Game of Career — Here’s a Look Back at Each One

Rafael Devers continues to prove why he’s one of the best young power hitters in the league. At just 26 years old, the star third baseman already has 164 home runs and 531 RBIs to his name – he hit his 150th home run on May 4 and is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon with 14 home runs since.

Through 101 games in 2023, Devers has a .264 batting average with 103 hits, 23 doubles, 25 home runs, 76 runs batted in, and 58 runs scored. He’s currently on pace to either tie or break his career-high for most home runs in a season and still has about 50 games to do so – his career-high is 38 HRs in 2021.

More recently, Rafael Devers made everyone’s head turn when he had his fourth multi-HR game on July 14 – bringing his career total to 16 multi-HR games. With his entire career ahead of him, Devers can easily add on to that number and will likely continue to hit at least one more over the next 50 games or so.

Rafael Devers is no stranger to the multi-HR game – he’s been hitting them for six years now with his first coming on August 14, 2017 and his most recent coming on July 14, 2023. And while the fans love it, his teammates and manager love it even more – the Red Sox are 11-5 when he hits at least two home runs.

His 16 multi-HR games is an impressive stat for a 26-year-old, but it pales in comparison to some of the greatest – the all-time leader being Babe Ruth at 72 multi-HR games and active leaders being Giancarlo Stanton and Manny Machado at 36 multi-HR games each. Aaron Judge currently has 31 such games.

With that said, Rafael Devers is going to continue to climb this list in the coming years and should find himself in or near the top-100 all-time in this stat category by the time he turns 30. What’s Next for Rafael Devers?

Rafael Devers is just getting started with his career, but has already accomplished so much – at 26 years old, he’s been in the league long enough to be a veteran, but still has some of his best ball ahead of him. And with the new contract he signed earlier this year, he has all the motive to go out and perform well.

Devers signed a 10-year, $313.5 million contract with the Boston Red Sox in January 2023. He’ll be paid a $20 million signing bonus in the form of $5 million per year between 2023 and 2026. As far as his salary, it’ll fluctuate between $27.5 million and $31 million over the next 10 years. He’s a paid man!

So, what’s next? Well, the obvious answer there is winning another World Series title to follow up his championship run in 2018. Unfortunately, he has only been back to the playoffs once since then (in 2021) and aren’t guaranteed a spot in this year’s postseason – unless he has more of those multi-HR games!
