The second baseman, who is a fan favorite and considered an essential part of Houston’s line, suffered a broken thumb during the World Baseball Classic and is expected to miss the start of the MLB season.

Although a broken thumb for most people does not seem like a debilitating injury, for an athlete like Altuve, a working thumb is essential for completing a successful swing or throw. His thumb was rendered broken on March 18th and had surgery for the injury by the 22nd. However, he is still expected to miss at least two months of the season to focus on recovery.

Of the people who despise the New York Yankees, Wahlberg is at the top of the list. Although he’s been a self-proclaimed Boston Red Sox fan all his life, he admitted he’s becoming an Astros fan as well simply because they’ve historically dominated the Yankees in previous seasons.

Mark Wahlberg affectionately refers to Houston Astros players as ‘Yankee Killers’

With this being said, he’s willing to go to any lengths if it means keeping New York out of the World Series. Even if this means donating his thumbs to the recently injured Houston Astros player. With a player of his stature out of the roster, it could hinder their ability to crush the New York Yankees in upcoming games.

“I am also willing to donate either one of my thumbs to Jose Altuve, for sure,” Wahlberg told reporters, referring to the Astros as some of his favorite “Yankee Killers.”

Continuing, Wahlberg also spoke very highly of the Astros’ third baseman, Alex Bregman. “He’s an amazing guy and he’s also my favorite Yankee killer of all time,” the 51-year-old actor said of the player.

“I’ve been a big, big fan of his for a while. We just became close friends. I’m just here to support him. I was rooting for him all the way through, of course, when my Red Sox were out, you know, I was right on the Astros bandwagon,” he continued, explaining what exactly converted him to an Astros fan. “Of course, once they swept the Yankees, he became my favorite Yankee killer.”
