Russell Wilson Fears That the Start of the NFL Season Will Keep Him From Being Inside the Delivery Room When His Wife Gives Birth

Just days after Seattle Seahawks quarterback voiced his concerns about reporting for training camp despite the NFL’s lack of COVID-19 protocol, Russell Wilson is speaking out more while a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

As At The Buzzer previously reported, Wilson took to Twitter revealing his concern about participating in the upcoming season because of his wife and kids at home. Wilson’s wife, pop star Ciara is currently pregnant with their second child, her third.

“I am concerned. My wife is pregnant,” Wilson wrote on Twitter. “@NFL Training camp is about to start.. And there’s still No Clear Plan on Player Health & Family Safety. We want to play football but we also want to protect our loved ones #WeWantToPlay.”

While talking with Joel McHale, who was filling in for Jimmy Kimmel, on national television, Wilson was asked if he would be able to be in the delivery room with Ciara as they welcome their son into the world.

“That’s what we don’t know,” Wilson told McHale. “That’s kind of the crazy part of it. I hope so. Obviously, COVID’s been such a crazy thing right now and the pandemic and everything else.”

McHale then asked if Ciara wanted him in the delivery room. To which the quarterback responded saying he thinks “she needs me in the hospital room. Last time she grabbed my hand, she almost broke my hand!” Luckily for Seahawks fans, he had his wits about him to make sure Ciara grabbed his left hand, instead of his right, which is what she was originally holding onto.

Earlier this month, the proud husband took to Instagram to share a recent photo of Ciara that was published in Vogue. “You Radiate. Even in the midst of the darkest days of COVID & the world… You Shine,” Wilson said of his wife. “God’s Light glistens off of you. Although this pregnancy experience has had so many restrictions due to the circumstances of the world, it has been one of the greatest blessings loving and living life with you. You Are My QUEEN. I love you. I’m grateful I got to take these photos of you to forever remember how you have changed my world for the better.”

How sweet is that?
