Will Golf Legend Tiger Woods be Competing at 2022 Masters Tournament? Do the Signs Say Yes?

Tiger Woods is ‘Making Progress’ On His Swing 9 Months After Devastating Car Crash

In late February of 2021, golf icon Tiger Woods found himself in the midst of a car crash that left him severely injured. Although he questioned if he would ever golf again, the athlete has recently shared that he is making significant progress in his recovery.

For most of this year, the golfer has been taking a hiatus due to the injuries he sustained during the crash. While driving his car 75 MPH in a 45 MPH zone, Woods was flying down a Southern California swerved road when he swerved, hit a curb, and rolled his car over. The impact caused trauma to his leg which needed surgery to be corrected.

“Mr. Woods suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery by Orthopedic trauma specialists at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a level 1 trauma center,” a statement that was released on the 45-year-old’s social media read.

Following the accident, Woods found himself going through the process of physical therapy to regain strength in his legs. Considering the fact that his tibia and fibula bones were shattered and had even pierced through skin, the recovery process has been nothing short of difficult.

Although the athlete has been competitively competing in golf for years, he reported that his biggest opponent thus far has been this specific process of recovery. Woods sat down with Golf Digest last May to detail his slow climb back to full mobility.

“This has been an entirely different animal,” he said. The golfer continued and commented, “I understand more of the rehab processes because of my past injuries, but this was more painful than anything I have ever experienced.”

During this point in his recovery, Woods struggled with walking and had to relearn the process of walking without an aide. He implied in May that golf wasn’t a priority at that point when asked about his plans to return to the field. In repose to being asked about where he stands with the sport, he responded, “My physical therapy has been keeping me busy. I do my routines every day and am focused on my No. 1 goal right now: walking on my own. Taking it one step at a time.”

With all this being said, Woods has publically posted a 3-second clip of him exhibiting an impressive practice swing on a golf course. Although only 3 seconds, the video depicted a significant status update as to where the athlete is in his recovery progress. “Making progress,” he wrote in the caption of the video.

Despite being dressed in a protective black sleeve on his injured leg, it is clear that Woods is getting back to what he loves most after months of laying low.
